Conclusion
I. “over the past few minutes, I showed you the events in Tolkien's life that encouraged him to write something or changed his writing. I hope that this speech has either given you an appreciation for his works or that it has given to you a deeper appreciation for what Tolkien has done. I, for one, love Tolkien. In conclusion, I will share a few quotes from The Author and let you decide what to think about him.
I believe Tolkien referred to the Lord of the Rings when he wrote, “Some who have read the book, or at any rate have reviewed it, have found it boring, absurd, or contemptible, and I have no cause to complain, since I have similar opinions of their works...”
There is also a bit of advice that I wish to convey to you, but before I do I must give you advice about advice: “Advice is a dangerous gift, even from the wise to the wise.” Here is the advice: that you take every opportunity that you can to pursue something new, for Tolkien says, “Still round the corner there may wait, A new road or a secret gate.”
And as my time is at an end, I wish to leave you with this thought: Life is simple; “All that we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”
“The board is set, the pieces are moving. We come to it at last...
The great battle of our time.”
